Getting Rid of Lice

Getting rid of lice is not a nice job, seeing what has been living on your head infront of you on a piece of kitchen roll! We have just been through a spell of headlice in our house. It was a nightmare, because I didn’t actually realise that they were headlice for 2 weeks which gave the lice plenty of time to mature and run around our heads! My son Harry started itching his head every now and again after his 6th party (think it was a gift given by someone at his party) and then by the time we went away after Xmas he was itching a lot more, I also began itching whilst we were on our weeks holiday. I went to the chemist for what I thought was a dry, itchy scalp. I spent $40 on a shampoo and conditioner which I tried on our heads but saw no results. It did say though to give it a couple of weeks.

Anyway, a couple of days after we got home at 3am one morning I was woken up by my head itching to the point where I couldn’t sleep. I realised at that point that this was something more than an itchy scalp. I put on my nit oil and combed through and there the little creatures were. It makes me cringe 2 weeks later whilst writing this! I combed my hair with the nit comb I have for getting rid of lice. I did this for a good hour and got them all out. As soon as Harry got up I did his too and even though Sam hadn’t been itching I did his and sure enough Sam had about 4 or 5 of them too. When my husband awoke I told him and when he came home from work he did his hair (not believing he had them) and he had them. So he spent half an hour getting rid of lice. They had gotten us all, even my Mom who was staying with us from the UK at the time. The only one they didn’t get was my Dad. Don’t know why, probably all the alcohol from Xmas in his pours or the coconut oil he uses to tan himself!

Poor Harry had been suffering with nits for a couple of weeks before I had got rid of them for him. Next time I see Harry or Sam itch I am ready!

Head Lice Removal

There Is 1 Response So Far. »

  1. We have had lice in the past also. It is such a pain to get rid of. All three kids had it. I think I still have some bedding in bags.. it has been over a year. This is a good reminder to go out and bring them back in the house. :)
