Peanut Allergy Statistics – There is hope!
Peanut Allergy Statistics say that as many as 2% of children now suffer with the condition. However, a trial conducted by Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge has given hope to anyone suffering with Peanut allergies. By giving small daily doses of peanut flour to children who already have a severe peanut allergy over a period of 6 months they have allowed the children to be able to digest as many as 12 peanuts without having the sever reaction anaphylaxis.
Four children initially took part in the study and were given 5mg of peanut flour which was mixed in a yogurt. The dosage was increased every 2 weeks until they could tolerate 800mg of flour which is equivalent to 5 peanuts! Another conducted by Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge which involved 20 children has results where 12 children have completed treatment and some of them are able to tolerate 12 peanuts a day! The original 4 children are having their dose of 5 peanuts a day.
Hopefully this will result in the peanut allergy statistics reducing in the future – There is hope!
